The Root Cellar

I've created this blog for the purpose of sharing my collection of vintage American "Roots" music with others.

I will be posting many forms of American Roots music including blues, country blues, ragtime, mountain music, and bluegrass.

The music posted on this blog will mainly be taken from the 1920's and 1930's although occasionally I may post something from the early 1940's as well. However all of the music that I post will be acoustic based.

“Bedside Blues” - Jim Thompkins (1930)

Sorry about the lack of updates lately but my wife gave birth to our daughter Clare Alexandria Archer on May 29th so it’s been extremely hectic around here.

That being said I am taking the easy way out today by posting a blues artist that no one knows anything about. I really enjoy posting all of the biographical information about the artists here on The Root Cellar but I am not going to have much time for research during the next couple of days so I will be posting some artists who are “unknowns”.

“Bedside Blues” was Thompkins’ only commercially released recording. It was recorded on February 21, 1930 in Memphis, Tennessee and released on the “Brunswick” label.

I have posted a picture of the cover of a Son House CD here because the Jim Thompkins record is included on that CD as are a couple of other records recorded by relatively unknown blues artists.
